“(Around 4 p.m.) deputies near 15th street and Railroad Avenue observed what they thought was a suspect in a grand theft bicycle incident. The suspect seeing the deputies then ran,” said Lt. Mohrhoff of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station.

“A containment was set up and deputies searched for the suspect. Due to the head start and the apartment complex’s in the area he was not located,” said Lt. Mohrhoff.

The containment had multiple streets closed as students and parent were flooding into the neighborhood for various athletic and school events at the nearby Hart High School and Placerita Junior High School.

After nearly an hour and a half, the containment was called off as the suspect could not be located, deputies met at the nearby library to debrief around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Despite not locating the suspect, deputies did recover three bicycles during the search of the apartment complex, according to Lt. Mohrhoff.
