Hart Baseball Scores Big With Bingo Night Fundraiser

When the Hart High School baseball bingo committee realized the fundraiser conflicted with SCV Dodger Day, they continued to have high hopes that the community would attend their second annual event.

To their surprise, the now-annual Hart Baseball Bingo Night sold out.

Over 225 guests packed the Boys and Girls Club for the 2018 Hart Baseball Bingo Night fundraiser, donating over $14,000 for the Hart Baseball Program.

“It was fantastic. There was something there for everyone,” said Lee Coogan, a varsity player’s parent. “And who doesn’t like marking B-11 and yelling out B-I-N-G-O!”

Because of the high school’s limited budget, much of the needed baseball funding comes from baseball parents and the community.

“I knew (they) would turn out,” said John Dow, Hart Dugout Club president. “You don’t need to leave the valley, we have our own local championship teams right here at Hart High School.”

Organizers were worried that baseball-minded residents would skip the event in favor of SCV Dodger Day, but were pleasantly surprised by the turnout.

“We are thrilled to have such a great turnout in only our second year,” Dow said.  “We really wanted to reach out and connect with the community. People really seemed to be having a good time.”

The SCV Boys and Girls Club has had a long term working relationship with Hart High School to support the baseball program as a number of their players have come through the Club program, according to Matt Nelson, CEO of the SCV Boys and Girls Club.

The event consisted of food by El Cholo, a silent auction with mother’s day items, as well as an art exhibit by local artists Zony Gordon and Tony Hanna.

Proceeds from last year’s bingo night were utilized to make improvements to the field, as well as to install a PA system.

“The Hart Baseball Dugout Club provided a well-rounded experience for our participants, and the 2019 Bingo Night is already in the planning stages,” Dow said.
