The VRC is an ad hoc committee specifically formed to review the certification for trauma centers. It was formed with members from the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

A level II certification recognizes the trauma team’s dedication to their patients and to providing them with the highest quality trauma care, according to Henry Mayo officials.

The COT’s Consultation/Verification Program for Hospitals, established by the ACS in 1987, aims to promote the development of trauma centers in which trauma doctors not only provide standard necessary trauma care, but go above and beyond to address the needs of all injured patients.

According to the VRC, the spectrum covers all phases of the experience starting from the prehospital phase and through the rehabilitation process.

As the only trauma center in the Santa Clarita Valley, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is proud to once again be designated as a Level II Trauma Center, a tradition which began in 1993, hospital officials said in a statement.

In order to obtain the certification, the hospital had to meet a list of essential criteria confirming that Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital performs all procedures and protocols for trauma care.

“We are very proud to be a trauma care leader in our community,” said Dr. Larry Kidd, senior vice president and chief clinical officer at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our entire trauma team of nurses, physicians and support staff on their efforts to improve the health of our community through compassion and excellence in healthcare services.”

The certificate of verification is valid for a period of three years.
