Hikers Rescued From Towsley Canyon By Helicopter

Two hikers were airlifted out of Towsley Canyon after triple-digit temperatures dehydrated them over the course of a hike Sunday afternoon.

“(The hikers) called in at about 12:45 p.m.,” said Lt. Brenda Cambra with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “They were out of water and overheated.”

Due to the location of the incident, a search and rescue team was called to locate the missing hikers.

“We activated the search and rescue team,” said Cambra.

Shortly after 2 p.m. the hikers were found and airlifted off of the trail by L.A. County Fire Department Helicopter 15, said Supervising fire dispatcher Cheryl Sims.

One male patient was confirmed to have been taken to a local hospital for further evaluation when the helicopter rendezvoused with emergency responders.   

The temperature Sunday afternoon was at least 105 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
