“A lot of families will help out with taking care of someone in their family at some point in their life,” said Jennifer Hayes of Home Care Services Santa Clarita. “While most people have a general idea of how to care for someone, they might not know how to do it safely and effectively.”

The free training provided at the workshops is the same training given to Home Care Services’ professional caregivers, Hayes added.

A few skills attendees can expect to learn at the workshops include how to safely move someone from a bed to a chair, how to prevent slips and falls in the bathroom, safe and respectful bathing practices and the safest ways to pick up someone who has fallen.

“We don’t want anyone else to get hurt,” Hayes said. “We want to make sure everyone is living long and staying healthy.”

“We do non-medical caregiving such as cooking, cleaning, bathing and care for families from the elderly all the way down to the new mom that just had a baby that needs some help around the house, or even someone that just got out of surgery that just needs a couple weeks because they’re bed bound,” Hayes said. “We can really help out with anything in that regard.”
