The roundup was a joint effort of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, both aiming to remove harmful substances from homes and promote recycling.
Residents were able to give electronics such as computers and cellphones to county hazmat crews, with the guarantee that the material would be “100 percent demanufactured and recycled in a stringent and environmentally acceptable manner to the commodity level in the United States,” according to the Los Angeles County Public Works website.
