Jeff And Melanie Meyer Make Generosity Possible With Santa Clarita Financial Planning

When Jeff and Melanie Meyer moved their Thrivent Financial office to Valencia in 2016, they wanted to take a different approach to Santa Clarita financial planning — one that matched the heart of this community.

“Santa Clarita is such a giving community, and we want to help people live as generously as they desire,” said Jeff and Melanie Meyer, a Santa Clarita financial planning team. “With customized financial planning, it’s completely possible to have enough for your family — and enough to share with the families of this community.”

To help support a generous lifestyle, charitable giving is woven into the fabric of Thrivent Financial, as well as Jeff and Melanie Meyer’s Thrivent Office in Valencia.

“Thrivent Financial is a member-owned not-for-profit organization, which means we’re unique in the sense that we are exempt from federal taxes; instead, we’re able to use the money –which we’d otherwise pay in certain taxes – to support the communities you live in, the causes you care about and the churches you worship in,” explained Jeff and Melanie Meyer. “Then, our members decide where to donate their portion of charitable funds. Thrivent Financial also gives to local non-profits throughout the year.”

As part of their commitment to generous living, Jeff and Melanie Meyer’s Thrivent Office recently helped sponsor Family Promise of SCV’s Box City event, which raises awareness and funds for homeless families in the Santa Clarita Valley. Over the years, Jeff and Melanie Meyer have donated to the organization out of their own pockets, and as a whole, Thrivent Financial has nationally donated $79,123 to Family Promise since 2016. For many years, the organization has been close to their hearts.

“We all have that ability to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, but some people don’t even have the bootstraps to begin with — we aren’t all given the same opportunities from day one,” Melanie Meyer said. “If we can give someone a hand up through charitable means, that may be the opportunity they need to get ahead and build a better life. That’s why we support Family Promise of SCV.”

With a soft spot for homelessness, women, children and education, Melanie has always made the effort to support people who have fallen on some hard luck, Jeff says.

“Melanie has always done this kind of thing. She makes hygiene bags and delivers them to the local homeless,” he said. “We really like and support the mission of Family Promise because it aligns with our own values.”

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed bands, activities, entertainment and free food for participants. Jeff Meyer even performed as part of The Grizwalds, a favorite local band, and Lucy, the up-and-coming puppy mascot of Thrivent Financial, greeted Thrivent members and community members alike. At the end of the night, participants slept overnight in a cardboard box “home,” as a resident of Box City.

Jeff and Melanie Meyer of Thrivent Financial also have sponsored Habitat for Humanity, Cocktails on the Roof for the WiSH Education Foundation, the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer, VIA Bash and more, just this year.

“Generosity is built into the fabric of what we do,” said Jeff and Melanie Meyer.
