KHTS Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Crimson (VIDEO)

A labrador/collie mix puppy named Crimson seems to have spent most of her short life living on the streets scavenging for food, but is quickly learning how to be a loving companion for her future family.

At about one year old, an underweight Crimson was rescued from a shelter in L.A. last month and brought to Shelter Hope Pet Shop Santa Clarita, where volunteers are showering her with playtime, love and affection she’s likely never known before.KHTS Adoptable Pet of the Week - Crimson, Shelter Hope Pet Shop Santa Clarita

“She’s getting to know people and learning how to walk on leash, and learning how to be a good canine citizen,” said Dani Caouette, the organization’s director. “She’s a love… She’s going to make a really great family pet.”

A true puppy, Crimson is full of energy and loves running, swimming and chasing tennis balls.

“She’s very athletic,” Caouette said, noting that Crimson would probably be a great agility dog. “I would like to see (her with) a family, or just a very active owner.”

Crimson’s forever home would need to have a very secure backyard, as she has shown Shelter Hope volunteers she can jump as high as eight feet.

“The biggest thing for us would be somebody that’s going to have a really secure backyard, somebody that’s not going to let her be unattended in the backyard,” Caouette said.

“She’s a great dog — I would love for people to come down and meet her,” Caouette added. “She’s a perfect medium-sized dog. She’s not too little, she’s not too big, so I think she could really fit in nicely in a family.”

About the Adoption Process at Shelter Hope Pet Shop Santa Clarita

Located on Town Center Drive at Westfield Valencia Town Center, potential adopters can stop into Shelter Hope Pet Shop from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday to meet a variety of small- to medium-sized adoptable dogs.KHTS Adoptable Pet of the Week - Crimson, Shelter Hope Pet Shop Santa Clarita

“If you like one, we can go ahead and put you in our meet-and-greet room and spend a little extra time getting to know each other,” Caouette said.

Then the potential adopter is asked to fill out a questionnaire to make sure the adoption would be the right choice for both the person and the pet.

Adoption fees range depending on the size of the dog and are typically $350, which include a variety of things.

Not only are Shelter Hope Pet Shop dogs up to date on their vaccines, spayed or neutered and microchipped, adopters also receive in-home training for their new canine companion and go home with food and a halter, leash and collar.

“(It’s) everything you need to get started,” Caouette said.
