KHTS Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Jackson (VIDEO)

When volunteers from Furever Purr Rescue arrived at the Lancaster Shelter about three months ago, they were greeted by a talkative tabby cat — now named Jackson — who stretched his paws through the kennel bars in an effort to get their attention.

In hopes the just over one-year-old kitty would get adopted, the volunteers attempted to network Jackson while he stayed at the shelter, but soon discovered he had fallen ill and would likely need treatment the shelter couldn’t provide.

Jackson“He is a love bug– that’s what got our attention,” said Bridget Alves, founder of the Santa Clarita-based Furever Purr Rescue. “He ended up getting sick at the shelter, which usually means that they are not going to exit the shelter … so that’s what prompted us to get him out.”

Two and a half months later, Jackson is now back in good health and is enjoying his time with his foster family in Santa Clarita, which includes a 10-year-old boy and a shih tzu named Puff.

Jackson loves to cuddle and sleep in bed with his foster parents, but also has an energetic, playful side and enjoys “talking” to express himself.

“He’s very chatty,” Alves said. “He’s very snuggly. He’s what we consider a very needy kitty. He would probably do really great with somebody who always engaged with him and played — he’s not a couch potato.”

While Jackson would probably do well in a family with older children, Alves noted that he does tend to “love bite,” which younger children may not understand.Jackson

“When cats get really excited and they’re just really loving on you, they’re giving little nips and love bites and kisses, and tucking their head and rolling,” she explained. “As long as you’re somebody who understands that and you’re not frightened … he’s not going to do it to hurt you.”

Jackson’s ideal adopter would also be mindful that he seems interested in going outside, but would need to stay indoors.

“We think that he probably had an outdoor life before, so whoever does adopt him will have to be careful,” Alves said, adding he would be the perfect match for someone who would enjoy spoiling him as an indoor cat.

“He came from a really compromised, rough beginning,” she continued. “It would be really nice to see him in a home where he was treated like royalty.”

About the Adoption Process at Furever Purr Rescue

The adoptable cats at Furever Purr Rescue are spayed or neutered, tested for FeLV/FIV, up to date on shots and microchipped.

The adoption fee, which helps the rescue cover these types of veterinary expenses, ranges depending on the cat’s age. For adult cats like Jackson, the fee is $75, with seniors set at $50 and kittens at $125.

Potential adopters can fill out an online application before a “meet-and-greet” and home check are set up by a foster coordinator.

“We do a home visit, and we do that not to scrutinize anything, but really just to be helpful and point out things that could be a danger to the cat,” Alves explained.

If someone is a first-time cat owner, the home check is also an opportunity for rescue volunteers to share tips and advice on how to set things up for a successful adoption.

Alves continued, “If it’s a good fit and it looks like it’s going to work, then we do a home delivery and live happily ever after.”

  1. We are looking for a companion for our 4 year old male tabby, Tiggers. We have had many cats, all tabbys, and think they have the best disposition on the planet. We live in Ojai and are willing to travel anywhere to find the perfect cat. We live on a very large ranch that is commercial agriculture, growing avocados pixie tangerines and lemons. Is Jackson still available? Please let me know where he is located and maybe we can come and meet/greet him. He looks fantastic, very beautiful. I think he would really like it here.

  2. I am the lucky one who was able to adopt Jackson. He is one of the most loving cat ever. He does love to give you love bites, I so understand he wants to show his love to his family. He will be treated like royaltie for sure because he is our family member now. Thank you Furrever Purr Rescue for letting us adopt Jackson, and making our family whole again after our loss.
