Featured animals will come from a different Santa Clarita rescue organization every week, with a variety of nonprofits — like St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary and Brittany Foundation — expected to participate.

“We’re launching the ‘KHTS Adoptable Pet of the Week’ series in an effort to help the rescues in our community find homes for their animals,” said Melissa Lampert, the station’s features director and creator of the series. “There are so many amazing dogs and cats just waiting to be adopted, so we want to share their stories with the public.”

Slated to premiere Wednesday, August 10 on hometownstation.com and KHTS’ Facebook page, the first KHTS Adoptable Pet of the Week is “Lucky,” a five-year-old doberman/labrador retriever mix from St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary in Canyon Country.

“We met Lucky on Monday, and he is the perfect example of a rescue dog who hasn’t had an easy life, but still has so much love to give,” Lampert said. “He came to the sanctuary about two months ago, and I’m so excited for him to find the forever home he’s always deserved.”

Adoption fees for rescue pets like Lucky usually include spay/neuter, microchipping and vaccinations, and perhaps most importantly, the unconditional love of an animal whose life is ultimately being saved.

“By choosing adoption, you’re actually saving two lives,” Lampert said. “The life of your new best friend, and the life of the animal who will take their space at the shelter or rescue.”

Lampert is encouraging the Santa Clarita community to help network Lucky — and all the KHTS Adoptable Pets of the Week — by sharing their videos on social media every week.

“The more exposure we can give the pets of the week, the better chance they’ll have of getting adopted,” she said. “Just by clicking the ‘share’ button on Facebook, you could help save a life.”
