State Assemblyman Dante Acosta Sits Down With KHTS For ‘Year In Review’

KHTS Editorial: Our Choice For The 38th Assembly District, Dante Acosta

KHTS believes Dante Acosta will be the strong choice to fill the vacant seat left open by Scott Wilk for our 38 th District California State Assembly seat. Assemblyman Wilk is now running for our 21 st District State Senate seat, left vacant with the untimely death of Senator Sharon Runner.

Acosta is well versed on Santa Clarita issues, currently serving on our City Council as Mayor Pro-tem.

Before running for Assembly, Acosta also worked as our Santa Clarita representative for Congressman Steve Knight. That gives Dante the benefit of understanding our issues from a variety of perspectives.

And what’s more important, he understands the history of these issues, allowing him to hit the ground running upon election in Sacramento.

Dante became active in Santa Clarita politics after the death of his son, Rudy, who died in 2011 while defending our country in Afghanistan. Dante caught the political bug, becoming very involved in many Santa Clarita worthwhile causes before successfully running for City Council two years ago.

Dante’s opponent, Christy Smith has also been active in Santa Clarita politics, serving on the Newhall School District Governing Board. Christy is bright and energetic, but she has proven, by her actions, far from being her own person. Christy has taken close to $1 milllion from the National Democratic Party and has resorted to a smear campaign that hits a new low in Santa Clarita politics.

Frankly, we had a lot more respect for Christy prior to the campaign. Our fears of her not being strong enough to be her own person and simply a tool for our state political machine rang true when the first nasty mailer hit our homes. We believe Christy’s actions show she is not capable of standing up to the strong armed tactics of State politics and would unfortunately become another tool of the machine instead of making decisions that are best for our Valley.

Dante is our choice for State Assembly because he will represent us well, fighting for the issues that most significantly impact our Valley. He will be his own man, supporting his beliefs and what is best for our community. Christy needs to regroup if she wants a future in Santa Clarita politics.

KHTS AM-1220 is also urging you to vote for our current Congressman Steve Knight, our current Assemblyman Scott Wilk for State Senator, Kathryn Barger as our County Supervisor, Dante Acosta for the California State Assembly; and Mayor Bob Kellar and former Assemblyman and City Council member/mayor Cameron Smyth for City Council.

  1. Pffft- No thanks!

  2. You folks are spot on. Christy Smith and the Democrat Party have run the most corrupt campaign in memory and I have lived in the Santa Clarity Valley for 41 years. If she can’t stand up to the muckrakers in her own party, she will not be able to represent the citizens of the 25th Assembly District.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
