Starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as real estate agents living in Santa Clarita, the married couple’s lives are turned upside down when Barrymore’s character, Sheila, suddenly starts craving human flesh.

Watch the video and read some of the reaction highlights below:

“I was hooked immediately. I saw it, I recognized a few of the actors and actresses, I thought, ‘I dig this — it’s binge worthy.'”

“My favorite character is Joel obviously, played by Timothy Olyphant. The love he has for Sheila is so amazing — it was a no-brainer to him (to stay together)… She’s undead and then they have to kill people so she can eat them to stay alive, and he’s willing to do that. The love he has for Sheila is amazing, and he’s also amazingly handsome.”

“It absolutely relates to Santa Clarita, especially in the first scene when we see all the neighbors get together … because when you first move into a new neighborhood all of the neighbors come out and everybody knows everybody’s business. And on the outer shell, everybody looks like life is wonderful, and then there’s always kind of like a little dark side that no one knows about. So this was right on the mark.”

– Tori, KHTS On-Air Personality

“They’re playing a married couple, but (act) so casually about killing people… You see that throughout the whole series, how they’re just talking about killing somebody, but they’re folding their bed sheets and their laundry.”

“Don’t get hung up on the gore or the zombie or anything like that, eating people. It’s real funny. They do it in a comical way — it’s not going to scare you, it’s going to make you laugh if anything. Give it a chance… You’ll be glad you did.”

– Andrew Delgado, KHTS Director of Operations

“I think it relates to all of us who live here just because of all the little things that they say. Every time they mentioned Magic Mountain, I was like — ‘Yes!’ Every time they showed something that I recognized, like Saugus Drugs or Canyon High, it made me feel like I was part of it somehow… I felt like I was in the show, or I felt like I was in their world.”

“They casted it so well… I think they both (Barrymore and Olyphant) look like total Santa Clarita moms and dads and realtors.”

“If you really just can get over all the gore and all of the blood, it was really about family and it was about being committed to the person that you love. Really I don’t think it had anything to do with the blood and the zombie stuff — it was all about Santa Clarita and the people who live in places like Santa Clarita.”

– Jazmine Urbina, KHTS Office Manager

“I thought it was really gross… Way too much blood. Way too much vomit.”

“I don’t think it related to Santa Clarita and the people who live here at all… I thought it was very funny, very creative, very unexpecting with the plot line. And obviously it’s not over.”

“I thought that it was, at first, over-the-top, but in a very funny, sit com-y way. And I think that they did that to set it up from the satire perspective, but I was really enjoying everything from the get go.”

“There’s not much to take away except pure satire. I think the fact that they picked Santa Clarita was really awesome because it is starting to make a name for itself as the uber suburban bedroom community here in Southern California. And the satiric take on it — blood, guts and all — was absolutely, phenomenally funny.”

– George Cummings, KHTS On-Air Personality

“It was very gory… It got a little shocking.”

“It was just good to see my girl DB (Drew Barrymore) back in the light, and it was really weird seeing her say ‘Santa Clarita.’ I thought that was a really odd thing for a celebrity to say, but I love Drew Barrymore… And Timothy Olyphant is a dream boat also.”

– Kyle Jellings, KHTS Station Manager

  1. Ick. It’s disgusting.

    • See it for what it is – a beautiful love story between two flawed people who live a regular, mundane life who manage to find work-around for this odd, fantastical thing that has happened to them, while coping with “normal” occurrences like their daughter skipping school. The craving of human flesh is just a side plot.

  2. Disgusting and Weird as it is…..it’s great business for the SCV! Hope it lasts for years!

  3. If it brings business here then I guess I can’t complain. Personally I find the show repulsive and won’t be watching it. It’s not the gore – I (was) a huge Walking Dead fan… but throwing this amount of flesh, blood, puke around the screen in a comedy setting just doesn’t click for me.
