The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a plan to acquire the areas necessary to repair Vasquez Canyon Road through eminent domain, officials said Wednesday.

With the decision to purchase the land in place, the county is moving forward to have the road operational as soon as possible, said Tony Bell, spokesman for Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

County officials have been trying to work with property owners for the area surrounding the closed stretch of road for nearly a year, according to officials.

Failing to come to a resolution, Los Angeles County is condemning the land, and looking to move forward with construction as soon as possible.

After a slow moving landslide destroyed the road last november residents have been left without a vital passage from Bouquet Canyon to Sierra Highway causing additional traffic in the area and leaving the area without necessary emergency routes.

The county hopes to have the road completed as soon as possible, but no official timetable has been set.

The project is expected to cost about $4 million, which would be covered by federal assistance, according to the county’s report.

  1. thank you! Soledad Cyn had been a traffic nightmare since this. I believe this will help relieve the traffic from the Canyon Country area!

  2. Are the property owners are holding out for more money? If that’s the case then the County should file a lawsuit and make the owners pay for ruining the road in the first place and for the repair. If this was the road to Jerry Brown’s house the full repair would be finished already…
