Fredrick Espiau, 56, of Tehachapi, was found by a Civil Air Patrol search team, after a passing-by plane spotted the wreckage of a plane Wednesday in the mountains northeast of Castaic on Wednesday.

Espiau left the Tehachapi Municipal Airport on the morning Thursday, Jan.12 with no flight plans on file and an unclear destinationand was never heard from again.

Medical examiners released Espiau’s identity Friday.

After Espiau failed to return for five days, and neighbors reported barking dogs on his property, officials declared Espiau’s flight overdue and the California Civil Air Control department started a search.

The cause of the crash has not been released, but is under investigation by the FAA.
