A Lebec suspect charged with kidnapping the children of her half-sister, whose body was found with a gunshot wound to the head on the side of the road, was sentenced to state prison Tuesday.

Brittney Sue Humphrey, 22, pleaded guilty in open court, with no pre-arranged plea deal — over the objection of prosecutors — and received her sentence.
“She was sentenced to 13 years in state prison,” said Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office.
The kidnapping, which resulted in a nationwide manhunt that ultimately found Humphrey, the child victims and her two alleged accomplices across state lines, took place after Alex Valdez and Josh Robertson allegedly killed Humphrey’s half-sister, Kimberly Harvill.

Humphrey was arrested in 2016 due to her suspected involvement in the murder of her half-sister, and the subsequent kidnapping of her three children, ages 5, 3 and 2.
Humphrey’s husband, Joshua Robertson, 27, and Alex Valdez, 29, are charged with Harvill’s death, and their respective murder trials are still making their way through the courts.
“Humphrey pleaded open to the court to three counts of kidnapping,” said Santiago. He said the plea was made of her own volition, with no deal in place with prosecutors.
Harvill’s body was found on a secluded road in Lebec with a gunshot wound to the head on Aug. 14, 2016.

Investigators found Harvill’s children in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the suspects in Colorado a day later.
Police found a missing then 18-month-old baby, Madisyn Harper, with Humphrey. Robertson was found two blocks away, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Valdez was arrested in March 2017 on suspicion of connection to the case, according to Detective Scott Matlock of the county’s Homicide Bureau.
Valdez’s pre-trial is scheduled for October 30.
Robertson is scheduled to have his preliminary hearing on October 31.

Is there any idea what the motive was?
I read a long time ago that the body was found in Gorman. In fact the woman’s body was found in an area south of Gorman. 2 different towns, 2 different counties! Can somebody correct this article?
