The family had owned the property for 10 years, according to the family’s GoFundMe page, and even made it through some minor flooding before Christmas, but the recent storms in January resulted in a huge wave smashing through the house.

A family member had noted hearing water flowing before “a wall of water 30’ wide, and approximately 10’ tall” had crashed through the home, according to the page.

They moved to higher ground just in time to see water, debris and boulders crash through the home. No one was injured, and the family remains together as they try to rebuild.

Insurance is able to cover some of the expenses, according to the page, but the fundraising campaign will remain active to help the family pay for their moving expenses, site restoration and more.
