The Dodgers took the Braves best shot in Game 3 of the National League Divisional Series on Sunday, but proved Monday why they are the reigning National League Champions.
Down 2-1 in the sixth inning, with not much noise being made with the bats after Manny Machado’s RBI double in the first, Dave Roberts brought in David Freese off the bench to pinch hit with two outs and runners in scoring position.
He proceeded to hit the go-ahead single up the middle to give L.A. a 3-2 lead, and they never looked back. Machado (2-for-5 with 4 RBI) blasted a three-run shot in the seventh inning to finish off Atlanta for good, and the Dodgers head to Milwaukee after a 6-2 victory in Game 4 and 3-1 NLDS win.
Every year the Dodgers front office makes the right moves to position the club for postseason success, and this postseason roster is full of playoff experience, youthfulness and hunger. They acquired Freese in September from the Pirates, and the 35-year-old has only gone on to be one of the hottest hitters in the National League since then.
Los Angeles now faces its most difficult challenge since the 2017 World Series, going up against a hot team with the likely league MVP and without home-field advantage. Just four more wins will mean another shot at the first World Series in 30 years.
