PHILLY FEEL: The Kings are in Pennsylvania for the first of their two meetings against the Philadelphia Flyers this season. The Flyers, after going without a win through their first four games of the season, have reeled off three victories in their previous four games, most recent a 4-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

PEARSON’S FLYING: Tanner Pearson, with two goals Sunday afternoon against the Blue Jackets, now leads the Kings in that department, as well as all NHL rookies, and is third overall in the league in goals scored. Pearson’s line alone of Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli, accounted for 10 points on Sunday, and have combined for 33 points through eight games this season, registering 16 of the team’s 21 goals.

ROAD LIFE: Today marks just the Kings’ second road game of the season, their other one coming on October 11 in Glendale against the Arizona Coyotes, a 3-2 OT loss. The Kings, with a 6-1-1 record through eight games so far, have found most, if not all of their success on home ice at STAPLES Center this season, going 6-1-0 in Los Angeles. The Kings had the Western Conference’s fourth-best road record last season, going 23-14-4. The Kings have won in their past three visits to Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center, dating back to February 2011.

HOMECOMING: Jeff Carter will make his second return to Philadelphia since the Flyers dealt the forward to the Columbus Blue Jackets in February of 2012. Carter scored in his one visit back to Philadelphia, tonight will be Carter’s third game against his former club in a Kings uniform. For Mike Richards, this will be his third game back in Philadelphia since the Flyers dealt him to the Kings in June of 2011. Tonight marks Richards’ fourth game against his former club in a Kings uniform.

CAUTIOUS WITH KOPITAR: It is unlikely that Anze Kopitar will play today in Philadelphia after leaving the game early Sunday when suffering an undisclosed upper-body injury in the second period against the Blue Jackets. Kopitar’s injury is expected to be day-to-day, somewhat like Marian Gaborik and Trevor Lewis, who have begun skating again. Kopitar is traveling with the team.

THE LAST TIME AROUND: The Kings split their season series against the Flyers last season On February 1 at STAPLES Center, the Kings lost 2-0 despite outshooting Philadelphia 35-13. On March 24 in Philadelphia, the Kings won 3-2 with goals from Jeff Carter, Justin Williams, and Dwight King and Jonathan Quick made 30 saves.
