The incident was reported inside the recent Sand Fire burn area at 1:44 a.m., with units arriving to Placerita Canyon Road and Running Horse Road at 1:56 a.m. The initial call was to respond to a possible lost hiker, said Inspector Joey Marrone of the LA County Fire Department.
“Sheriff’s (officials) reported that they heard a man yelling intermittently for help,” said Marrone.
An air squad arrived and came out with night-vision technology to locate the hiker.
Once spotted, a responder lowered from the helicopter to stabilize the man before both were lifted and flown to ground units, according to county fire officials.
The man is now safe and no injuries were reported.
