Once a month, officials throw a block party, which brings live music, food trucks and themed activities to Main Street on the third Thursday of every month from March to October.

Thursday night’s block party took on the spirit of the greenest holiday: St. Patrick’s Day.

Alongside the holiday-themed music and decorations lining Old Town Newhall, the event featured green beverages, provided by local bar Eighth & Rail.

Alehouse Fire, a Los Angeles based, self described “Irish pub folk’n’roll band,” stepped in as the main musical act for the night, covering songs from Irish bands such as The Clancy Brothers, Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphy.

Two particularly festive members of the community took home prizes for winning the greenest person contest, which was determined by votes from the crowd.

Organizers even managed to secure a performance from the Fisher-McLeod School of Irish Dance.

“We’ve been performing at this event for a number of years and every year we appreciate how many people come out even though it was cold,” said Megan Drake, dance instructor at the Fisher-McLeod School of Irish Dance. “The event was set up beautifully, the music was perfect and our dancers really enjoyed performing.”

Several food trucks such as the Grilled Cheese Truck, Deli Doctor, and Sweet Beams were present to serve hungry attendants.

“Everything went according to plan. Despite the fact that it was a bit colder than usual, we had a lot of people just having a good time,”  said Dave Knutson, Events Administrator for the city of Santa Clarita.

Although SENSES’s St. Patrick’s Day event is held only once a year, officials have assured residents that “Thursdays At Newhall” plans to continue to do weekly events throughout the year.
