“A tire came off another vehicle,” said Officer Priessman of the California Highway Patrol, on the southbound lanes of Highway 14, near Placerita Canyon Road.

The tire hit the road and then collided with a black Hyundai, according to CHP officials.

The collision occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the four leftmost lanes are expected to be closed while CHP officers investigate the crash.

The victim was not identified pending next of kin notification, according to California Highway Patrol officers, who described the victim as an Asian male, age 45-50.

Coroner’s officials have been called to the scene, and it’s unclear exactly how long the SigAlert will be issued by southbound 14 traffic is being severely impacted at this time. Only one lane, the rightmost lane, is open as of 4:25 p.m.

  1. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time! Terribly sad! I feel for their family/s. My condolences to everyone involved!

    • condolences to the man’s family. this is total negligence on the part of the driver who probably knew he had a bad tire but drove anyway. but i’ve heard of situations where the “mechanic” did not install a tire correctly. watch out for the pipes and debris that fall off trucks and go through windshields. ignorant drievrs that could care less about others on the road.

  2. Condolences to the family and friends. May god be with you all.

  3. Do they know how the tire came off the car?

    • I think they meant wheel and tire, not just tire. I drove past this a while after the incident. There was an older Cadillac (90’s) on the N/B side of the 14 and it was missing the front drivers side wheel. The victims vehicle was on the S/B side and the windshield was covered with a blanket.

Very sad. My condolences to his family and loved ones.

  4. I knew the man that was killed. Him and his wife are goid friend to our family and church. That old Cadillac had no business being on the fwy with a bad tire. How does the tire come off . Apparently the tire wasn’t properly secure. Very heart broken.
