In the first crash, John Hall, 72, of Stevenson Ranch, was killed when his SUV slammed into the back of a big rig.

Deputies believe that Hall had a “medical episode” before his car hit the truck on Magic Mountain Parkway, before Tourney Road, around 12:06 p.m.

A fatal vehicle-versus-motorcycle collision in Canyon Country was reported at approximately 9:40 p.m. The crash was reported near the intersection of Sierra Highway and Campus Drive, near College of the Canyons’ Canyon Country campus.

In that crash, Gary Clement, 68, of Canyon Country, was killed in a motorcycle-versus-vehicle collision.

In the second crash by COC, a 21-year-old from Oceanside was driving a 2000 Toyota Celica northbound on Sierra Highway, where he executed a U-turn.

CHP officials believe the driver did not “allow sufficient clearance,” and Clement collided with the right side of the Celica.

Both victims were declared dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Celica was uninjured.

The reason behind the U-turn is being investigated, according to CHP officers. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash at this time.

Both crashes are under investigation, according to law enforcement officials.

  1. This article is so poorly written that I’m completely shocked it made it past the editorial stage.

  2. Gary C was the real deal. Touched more people’s lives in a positive way, with his bright light and charm, than any person I’ve ever known. Celebrate his life and look over and over and over before turning, or even moving your vehicle. I hope the driver can get past this and try to turn it positive in some way.

    • Well said! Thank you, William.

    • Yes, Gary Clement was an amazing friend! Oh how he loved Cherie his wife, doggies Dolly,Dusty and Chacha. He also loved life and people! Gary never walked around with a chip on his shoulder. He was always smiling and positive. You’d never hear him say anything negative about anything or anyone, no matter what. Everyone who knew Gary Clement knew the famous “HEEEY MAAAAN”. It’s what he would always say instead of hi. He is going to be missed. Until we meet again on that big highway in the sky, ride in peace brother!

  3. Totaly confusing as to who made the U turn, and where did the motorcycle come into play?

  4. Hm. I think I understood it after reading it several times. This wasn’t written for a 5th grade reading level and should not have been published.

  5. I had to read the article 3 times and I’m still confused. Sounded like the car driver died then I read he was uninsured. This is almost as bad as the signal writer who repeats himself 2-3 times in an article. Need better proofreaders.

  6. Sierra Hwy is a pretty deadly street. Something has got to be done. I live off Sand Cyn n Sierra Hwy and I hear the sirens allllll too often. I’m constantly praying for the victims and their families. That street has SO many memorials on it now. Honestly, what can be done?

  7. Thank you for keeping us informed –

  8. I’m very confused. So were there four fatalities, or two?

  9. Gary Clement was a careful, clear headed, experienced motorcycle rider. Unfortunately, it mattered little. In a contest between a motorcycle and automobile, the motorcyclist loses, regardless of how or why. I hope you young or inexperienced riders out there will pay attention. Gary was as experienced as they come. He spent his spare time helping people and He will be greatly missed. As William said above, I hope the driver of the car can get past this and find a way to use this experience to benefit others. I know that’s what Gary would want. RIP my friend.

  10. I’ve only met him once and heard his story of his 8,000 mile road trip, which was amazing. I’m sad he’s gone as he seemed like a really kind and gentle soul. May he rest in peace. My prayers go out to his family.
