Multiple collisions on the 5 Freeway on Friday backed up traffic in all directions and blocked off roads at the start of the Labor Day weekend.

A traffic collision was reported at 12:36 p.m. as an overturned vehicle blocked lanes number one, two and three on the northbound I-5, south of Parker Road.
A SigAlert was issued soon after the initial call by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). At 2:40 p.m., the alert was lifted and all lanes were reopened.

A Black pick-up truck hit the yellow attenuators – the sand barrels, often yellow, set up on the freeways that absorb initial impact – and the driver crawled out of the vehicle with no apparent injuries, according to CHP officials.
As of 3:30 p.m., the southbound I-5 bypass has been reopened.
During the third collision, a big rig is believed to have rolled back into a grey Honda Civic on the northbound I-5 at Hasley Canyon Road at 1:26 p.m., according to reports. No lanes were closed.

The fourth collision occurred between a grey Honda and a dark grey pick-up truck, which blocked the roadway at Magic Mountain Parkway and The Old Road at 1:39 p.m., according to CHP reports. The road has since been reopened.
Drivers are advised to drive carefully and be vigilant of any debris on roads as CHP will be “out in force” during Labor Day Weekend.
