Los Angeles County officials are looking to add temporary polling places throughout the county, and have opened up a survey for residents to make their voices heard in where the voting centers should be in 2020.

In the next presidential election year, the county is set to implement the voting changes approved by Gov. Jerry Brown in 2017.
Senate Bill 450 allows counties to change from precinct based polling places to voting centers, allowing voters to cast their vote at any voting center in the city or county, according to the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder’s office.
The county would open temporary election offices throughout communities, known as “vote centers,” offering a variety of election services such as early voting and same-day voter registration.

The redesigned election experience would also allow voters to cast their vote at least 10 days before election day, eliminating the chance of registration errors, according to California legislature.
During the 2018 primary election, about three percent of registered Los Angeles County voters had to cast provisional ballots because their names had not transferred from county records to their individual polling places.
The 10-day window for early voting would combat any similar problems in the future by providing time for voting irregularities to be checked against county records.
The Los Angeles City Clerk encouraged voters to express their preferences through the Vote Center Survey, where they can express their opinions on where these center should be located.
