That officer wrote 18 citations on the four-hour patrol, including one to a driver going 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.

“You never know where we’re going to be, so it’s better to just slow down and avoid a hefty fine,” CHP officials said in the post.

During the month of April, another officer wrote 118 citations, 90 of which were on SR-126. One of the citations was to a driver speeding at 96 mph on Sierra Highway.

In 2016, national data showed that speeding-related deaths reached 10,111, a 4 percent increase from the year before, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

With freeways around Santa Clarita becoming more congested due to an influx of drivers and heavy construction, residents are using alternative roads. CHP officials encourage residents to know the posted speed limit on their alternative routes and adhere to them, to avoid a ticket.

“Despite concerns to the contrary, we do try and be everywhere as best we can,” CHP officials said. “Drive safely, you never know where we’ll be.”

  1. Good Job, Thank You.

  2. Why on Soledad is the speed limit 50mph in Canyon Country? People always go over the speed limit and 50mph is too high as it is. Many drivers go 70mph and it’s scary for local residents to merge from their neighborhoods w/ out a stop light. Speed limits need to come down now. 40mph would be more then fast enough.

  5. So can the CHP finally admit that highway 14 is not a drunk driving enforcement zone and is a speed enforcement zone?

They are always patrolling during the morning hours. Most of the drunk drivers I have seen are in the evening hours.
