In support of the California Highway Patrol Widows and Orphans Trust Fund and the Sheriff’s Department Survivors and Dependents Fund, Santa Clarita law enforcement officers are hosting a 5K walk and community day.

In support of the California Highway Patrol Widows and Orphans Trust Fund and the Sheriff’s Department Survivors and Dependents Fund, Santa Clarita law enforcement officers are hosting a 5K walk and community day.

Officers are providing lunch, live music, K-9 demo, and family activities Saturday, July 15, as well as a variety of 5K events in Valencia. There will be a 5K walk, run and kid fun run so people of all ages can participate in the event.

Check-in and registration on the day of the event will be from 6-7:45 a.m. The 5K walk/run will begin around 8 a.m., the Kids Fun Run will begin around 9:15 a.m., and the K-9 Demo will begin around 9:30 a.m. according to the OD5K tentative schedule.

For the kids attending, there will also be a dunk tank, an inflatable bounce house and more.

The cost to register for the Kids Fun Run is $15, the 5K walk/run cost is $40 but will increase to $45 after June 30 and the 1 mile walk is $25; the pre-registration deadline for these events is July 12.  A separate run/walk Officers Down event taking place August 18 and 19, will cost $45 to register and its pre-registration deadline is July 15.

To sign up for any of the 5K events or to donate to the event visit their sign-up website. Those who pre-register before July 6 at 11:59 p.m will receive a dri-fit T-shirt. All kids will receive a custom t-shirt, medal and bib. Participants must be present to receive their medal or T-shirt.

The Officers Down 5K event was founded by TJ Burke in order to raise awareness and honor the men and women in uniform who risk their lives everyday in order to keep their community safe.
