“You might have seen a stronger CHP presence this morning on Sierra Highway during the morning commute,” according to a CHP Newhall Twitter post. “They wrote 34 citations, with one violator being cited for 96mph!!!!”

Additional units were on hand with Newhall CHP to focus on drivers exceeding the speed limit and unsafe passing, according to Newhall CHP.

This is similar to the operation that took place last week on San Francisquito Road where a total of 25 citations were written with the fastest violation being exceeding the limit at 92 MPH.

The sting operation occurred after a fatal traffic collision on San Francisquito Road just north of Copper Hill Drive in Saugus.

In 2016, national data showed that speeding-related deaths reached 10,111, a four percent increase from the year before, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

With the freeways becoming more and more congested, residents are using alternative routes and the CHP wants to remind them to slow down on these roads for their safety and the safety of others.

  1. Our LASD is such a waste of resources… total incompetence

  2. Speeding vehicles on major SCV thoroughfares will soon become a past problem with all the new housing/commercial and industrial centers being approved and built with no additional roads and freeways to relieve the gridlock. That’s city planning at its finest!
