Newhall Man To Answer Domestic Violence Murder Charge

A Newhall man was ordered Thursday to stand trial for murder and two counts of assault in an alleged domestic violence-related death of his wife, and a separate alleged fight.

A judge ordered Robert George Arvizu, 49, to face a murder charge related to the death of his wife, Courtney Arvizu, and two charges stemming from an alleged assault against Eric Shapiro, according to court documents.

Robert Arvizu is being held at Men’s Central Jail in lieu of $1.1 million bail.

He’s expected to enter a plea June 8 when he’s due back in court for his arraignment.

Deputies discovered Courtney Arvizu unresponsive, with injuries consistent with blunt force trauma, in her home around 2:10 a.m. in May 24, 2015.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies entered the home of the victim, Arvizu’s wife, Courtney Arvizu, 25, and discovered she was unresponsive and appeared to have injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.
Deputies made the discovery around 2:10 a.m. Saturday, officials said in a Nixle news release.
Deputies also located and detained a man in the residence identified as the victim’s husband.

She was declared dead at the scene.

The assault involving Shapiro allegedly took place the day before.

Courtney Arvizu married Robert Arvizu in March, according to a Facebook post linked to Courtney Arvizu.

She operated a clothing line known as “Fitness Hardcore,” at the time of her death.

Arvizu reportedly faces up to 30 years to life in prison if he’s convicted.
