“As Mayor, I would like to thank the decision makers at the U.S. Postal Service for responding to the needs of the Newhall Community to locate the permanent Lyons Avenue post office in Newhall. I am grateful to all of the residents and businesses who notified the USPS of the importance of maintaining a Newhall Post office,” said Mayor Marsha McLean. “Hearing from the community definitely made all of the difference in having these vital services available in an easy to reach location with plenty of parking.”
Following a large response from the Santa Clarita community, United States Postal Service, or the USPS officials recently announced their top choice for the Newhall Post Office at a location on Lyons Avenue in the Newhall community.
The USPS site selection committee met on Wed., April 29, and toured the four contending sites for the “new” Newhall post office. Their choices in order of preference are:
#1 site- 23736 Lyons Ave (Former Dave’s Meats).
#2 site- 23644 Lyons Ave (Former Pizza Parlor).
#3 site- 25548 The Old Road, Unit U1 (current location).
#4 site- 23120-23128 Lyons Avenue (Wayman Court Center)
USPS officials said that given the community input, it was important to locate the permanent facility back in Newhall. The USPS received hundreds of postcards and letters from Santa Clarita residents during the 30-day comment period.
In the next 30 days, post office officials will be working with the owner of the number one site on details that need to be finalized prior to a lease signing. After 30 days the Postal Service can sign a lease and proceed.
