“There were some open containers in the primary person’s vehicle,” said Lt. Rob Hahnlein with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, confirming that they held alcoholic beverages.

The woman who investigators suspect was behind the wheel of the car they found the containers in is receiving care for her injuries at Henry Mayo Newhall hospital.

“She was found sitting at the curb when we got there,” Hahnlein said. “She’s at the hospital getting checked out.”

Emergency responders arrived to a three car wreck at the Golden Valley Road bridge over Soledad Canyon Road at approximately 11:50 p.m., Los Angeles County Fire officials said.

Of the three drivers involved, one person was pronounced dead on scene, another was transported to the hospital, and the third only suffered minor injuries and did not require a transport.

“It just looks like a person traveling south on Golden Valley accidentally hit the right curb heading into traffic coming northbound, striking oncoming traffic,” Hahnlein said.

The lieutenant confirmed the southbound driver’s car is the one investigators found the alcoholic beverage containers in.

Officials are still conducting an ongoing investigation into the collision.

The victim in this crash,  37-year-old mother of six Katie Evans, has been identified by those close to the family. You can read more here.
