If the situation permits, it’s usually better for person’s mental and emotional health to receive care at home rather than a hospital, which in turn can produce better clinical results as well, according to Ferrante.Home Care Services Santa Clarita

However, determining the combination of necessary medical and non-medical care to make that transition can be difficult.

“You’ve got a whole range of things when you have somebody in a hospital, you have a whole range of things when you have somebody at a nursing home or whatever the situation is,” Ferrante said. “But there is a whole litany of things and things to consider, understand and be educated about when you’re dealing with a loved one yourself or a loved one at home.”

While the person or their loved ones can’t be expected to know 100 percent of what they need, Ferrante stressed the importance of knowing what options are available for both medical and non-medical home care.

Home Care Services provides non-medical services in the form of professional caregivers in Santa Clarita. These caregivers are not doctors or nurses, but are trained professionals in providing non-medical in-home care.

“What a lot of people need when they go home is they need doctor-directed and nurse-directed care,” Ferrante said. “Then there’s the rest of the time, when either a family or professional caregiver needs to be helping, if that’s what the need is.”

Caregivers can help individuals with a variety of activities of daily living, such as getting around the house, bathing, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, transportation and more. While caregivers can monitor and help people with their medications, they do not administer it, according to Ferrante.

“You don’t put a doctor, you don’t put a nurse onto somebody that cares for somebody 24/7 or needs eight hours a day or something like that,” he said. “That’s where the caregivers come in. But they work together, along with your doctor, along with everybody else, to coordinate, integrate so that all the way through the process you have a continuity of care.”
