Seven months after the luxury senior living community Oakmont of Santa Clarita opened its doors, the community’s executive director, Margie Veis, is encouraging local seniors to join the waitlist now if they’re considering making the move in the future.

“We are pretty much full right now, working off a waitlist,” Veis said. “If you’re thinking about down the line, now’s the time to come get on that waitlist. Things do change every day, but we’re finding that people that come in that have that quick, emergent need, we can’t always help them.”

Oakmont of Santa Clarita has options for seniors both in need of assisted living and who are fully independent.

“We’re kind of the best of both worlds, so (when) residents move in, they may or may not need care,” Veis said.

She continued, “It could be somebody that’s recently lost a spouse that is afraid to be at home, still very capable, but wants that socialization and that reassurance that they’re not alone. It could be a couple where one spouse is in better shape than another, and it’s hard on the spouse that’s in good shape to continue to be a caregiver. (Oakmont is) a place where they can continue to be the spouse, not the caregiver… It can be somebody who has fallen and broken a hip, or is just in that aging process where it’s difficult to get around and they do need some assistance with taking a shower or managing their medication or even just cooking meals.”

Another potential resident could be a senior who simply doesn’t want to maintain a house or cook for themselves, and would rather enjoy the “cruise ship experience” of Oakmont of Santa Clarita.

“Oakmont is going to offer an all-inclusive,” Veis said. “You bring your own furniture, you set up your own apartment home, but you no longer have to worry about cooking meals because there’s an executive chef, there’s a housekeeper, we do laundry, there’s a full social program.”

Activities range from maintaining cognitive and physical strength to recreation and leisure, like shopping, going to the theater or the beach, according to Veis.

“You have quality of life,” she said. “We really want to get people in and get them to get on our waitlist, take a tour, see what’s happening.”

Oakmont is a luxury senior living community in Santa Clarita located on seven acres of land on Newhall Ranch Road. Recently opened in January 2016, Oakmont of Santa Clarita is comprised of 80 pet-friendly apartment units, with both independent and assisted living options available.
