Prosecutors believe Joshua Aaron Robertson shot and killed Kimberly Harvill, and then kidnapped her three children, with help from Harvill’s step-sister Brittney Sue Humphrey and Alex Valdez.
Harvill’s body was found with a gunshot wound to the head, and her children missing
Valdez was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to an amended criminal complaint during his arraignment Thursday. He’s expected back in court June 21 for a preliminary hearing setting.
Robertson was a “refusal,” according to officials with the D.A.’s Office, meaning he would not leave his cell. He’s expected to be arraigned Friday.
Humphrey had her arraignment continued to June 21. All three are being charged together.
Harvill’s body was found in Gorman by the side of the road in August 2016. Humphrey, 22, and Robertson, 27, are accused of shooting and killing Harvill, Humphrey’s step-sister, and kidnapping her three children, who were ages 5, 3 and 2 at the time.
Harvill’s body was found on a secluded road in Lebec with a gunshot wound to the head on Aug. 14, 2016. After her body was found, the investigation led police to Humphrey and Robertson who they believed Harvill was living with at the time.
The search for Humphrey and Robertson led investigators to find Harvill’s children in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the suspects in Colorado a day later.
Police found a missing 18-month-old baby, Madisyn Harper, with Brittney. Robertson was located two blocks away, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Madisyn was unharmed and is now in the custody of local authorities.
“(The arrest of Valdez) stems from a shooting that occurred in Fresno prior to the victim’s murder,” said Detective Scott Matlock, who investigated the case.
Humphrey is being held in lieu of $3 million bail. Robertson is being held in lieu of $3.75 million bail. Valdez is being held without bail.
