A person was rescued after falling approximately 40 feet down into a missile silo on the Nike Missile Site Sunday morning in Stevenson Ranch, according to officials.

“At 3:56 a.m. we received a call for a person who was trapped in a confined space on Browns Canyon Road and Oat Mountain Way,” said Vanessa Lozano, spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The Nike system was developed during the post World War II-era to combat enemy aircraft attempting to attack major cities within the United States, according to the Nike Historical Society.
It took units from the Los Angeles County and City Fire Departments over an hour to rescue the patient from a missile silo on the missile site, she said.
“The patient was removed at around 5:50 a.m.,” Lozano said.
The patient was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.
Law enforcement personnel from the Los Angeles Police Department and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are not investigating any crime in connection with this rescue.

Although ICBM’s use missile silos, Nike’s were not ICBM’s they were to be used to intercept incoming attacks by bombers.
