Providence Holy Cross officials announced the opening of a new Comfort Care Suite this week, hospital officials said.

The suite was created with help from a generous donation from Santa Clarita residents Lou and Rita Garasi, as well as the work of board Chair Jerry Puchlik, according to the hospital’s foundation.
“It’s a great thing for patients and their families, because when our patients are near their final days of life in this world, it gives people the opportunity to grieve privately and, most importantly, together,” said Steven Wallace, executive director and vice president of the Providence Holy Cross Foundation. “It’s rare to see this level of support at any hospital in the country.”
The effort was a labor of love supported by the Found Penny Foundation, the Garasi’s nonprofit, and Dr. Marwa Kilani, who leads the medical center’s palliative care team.
Palliative care is associated with patients who are facing serious or terminal conditions and treatments tend to be more associated with managing symptoms and improve quality of life, as opposed to traditional curative treatment.
