A brush fire broke out at around 2:07 p.m. in Valencia after a transformer in the area blew up, according to officials.

The fire began near the Old Road and Skyview Lane intersection, and was initially reported as a 50 by 50 foot spot in the grass, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Drivers in the area reported that traffic was backed up and that traffic signals were out in order to give the firefighters access to the blaze that was right alongside the road.
However, by 2:30 p.m., the fire that had by that time grown to a quarter-of-an-acre was 100 percent contained and LACoFD personnel were in the “mop up” phase.

Initial reports regarding the investigation into the source of the fire say that Southern California Edison was reportedly working on the issue near Magic Mountain Parkway and the 5 Freeway, according to officials.

And now the public will be paying for all these electrical fires instead of the stockholders of SoCal Edison, thanks to the PUC and Jerry Brown. Of course they figured out a way to move it onto the public and protect their stockholders from their shoddy workmanship and failure to inspect power lines. Get ready for higher rates.
