“Today should have some sprinkles, but showers are expected more widespread tonight,” said National Weather Service official Scott Sukup. “Thunderstorms are also predicted, but it is variable from different locations.”
As stormy weather approaches, residents are also advised that sandbags are available to pick up at their local fire station in preparation for any flooding.
Depending on locations, areas in the Santa Clarita Valley can expect a quarter of an inch of rain or nothing at all during the thunderstorm, said Sukup.
A “bigger storm” is expected to hit the community Friday night to Saturday morning with moderate to possibly heavy rain.
“Half an inch to an inch of rain is expected during that storm,” Sukup said. “With rain like that, residents should be prepared for any debris flows in recent fire areas.”
Amidst the rain, strong winds are also predicted to affect the city from Friday to Saturday. Though it’s too early to tell, 30 to 40 mile per hour winds are possible during those days, according to Sukup.
The weather is predicted to clear up come Christmas day as the weather should remain mostly sunny during the day and partly cloudy come evening.
