Dressed in tunics instead of school clothes, the fourth-grade students of Trinity Classical Academy and Imago Dei School are set to participate in their 14th annual Medieval Times and Renaissance Faire.

“It just gives them a chance to take a character from the time period or a vocation from the time and really study them in depth to get an idea of what life was like in the renaissance,” said Wally Caddow, co-founder of Trinity Classical Academy. The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday
Caddow’s wife, Liz, was involved in a similar event at the public school she taught at, and both of them wanted to bring the historical role-play to their school.
For four months, 54 students prepared to impersonate a prominent historical figure, assigned from the middle ages or the renaissance, and engage in “fierce” sword fights.
“The Medieval Times and Renaissance Faire is the perfect culmination of months of study, and gives them a unique historical perspective of that time,” said Kevin Seitz, grammar school principal for Trinity Classical Academy, “especially when they are able to interact with each other and the spectators in character.”
Caddow added that the students will build their own booths to display their character’s role in the time period.
“They also get a chance to use their rhetorical skills,” he said, explaining that the students can interact with spectators and their peers from other grades.
“The younger kids ask questions for them,” Wally Caddow said, “and see what’s in store the next few years.”
