UPDATE: Residents Calling On Community To Help Save Homeless Woman’s Gravely Injured Cat

***UPDATE: Miracle’s surgery has been paid for as of 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to members of Everything Pets in SCV.

Several members of the Facebook groups “Everything Pets in SCV” and “Lost and Found Pets of SCV” are calling on the Santa Clarita community to help save a homeless woman’s gravely injured cat by donating toward the cost of her surgery.

“Miracle” was brought to Valencia Veterinary Center in Santa Clarita on Sunday in critical condition after possibly being attacked by a dog, and is on supportive care while she awaits surgery.

“Her body is kind of hanging out– she has abdominal wall ruptures, so all of the abdominal content have herniated,” said Dr. Baljit Grewal, who noted Miracle was in stable condition Tuesday morning.

“Her stomach lining on the inside got ripped,” explained Miracle’s owner, Devin. “She literally had no cuts or scratches on the outside, no blood or anything, but her organs fell out of her tummy lining and they need to be put back in.”

Grewal and the staff at Valencia Veterinary Center are currently hospitalizing Miracle at no charge while Devin attempts to raise the estimated $1,500 needed for her pet’s surgery.

Devin was reportedly going door-to-door in Santa Clarita asking for donations while several members of “Everything Pets in SCV” and “Lost and Found Pets of SCV” rallied behind her cause, encouraging residents to call Valencia Veterinary Center directly to make a donation.

“She’s my reason to smile, she’s the only pure, sweet, innocent, good, loving thing that I know,” Devin said, noting that she rescued Miracle and her sibling, Midnight, from an abusive situation about a year ago. “She’s very loving. She always reaches her paw out to touch your face, to let you know she loves you. She’ll touch my forehead to her forehead… We have a really good connection.”

As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, a total of $825 had been raised toward the surgery, according to a Valencia Veterinary Center staff member, who noted those who want to help can make a credit card donation over the phone by calling the center.

A deposit of 50 percent of the estimated cost of services is required to move forward on the surgery, with Devin assuming financial responsibility for the remaining balance to be paid in full at the time Miracle is discharged from the hospital, according to an invoice obtained by KHTS.

If the funds can be raised in time, Miracle is expected to make a full recovery after her surgery, which Grewal hopes to perform on Wednesday.

Devin was also looking for someone local to foster Miracle after the surgery due to her current living situation, and a foster had been found by Tuesday evening, according to members of Everything Pets in SCV.

“(Ideally) I would love to be able to have her by my side and be able to take care of her, but my situation is in a state that maybe it would be best for her (to have a foster home),” Devin said. “I don’t have a home right now… It’s very hard to find a place to stay when you have cats.”

For the timebeing, Devin has found someone to take her in while she finds a more permanent situation.

“It’s a very temporary thing,” she said. “It’s not stable. It would probably be better for (Miracle) if she has a good place to stay while she recovers.”
