Attendants were able to participate in an assortment of different activities and gain information and resources on different forms of cancer.

Dr. Kelly Cude, a biology professor at College of the Canyons, helped organize the event after a number of her students felt as if they didn’t have enough information about cancer.

“They just had so many questions and nowhere to find the answers,” said Cude. “And I thought, we need to have something for our community where they can come and get that information as well as find out the resources for treatments and the different things that are available for them in this valley.”

Residents were able to get information from a number of different medical resources at the event as well as get a closer look at the human lungs and intestines through inflatable displays.CARE SCV Cancer event

Officials hope that the free event will draw people to learn more about cancer and learn how to take care of themselves in terms of it, according to Cude.

“We are just trying to impart information to them that could be useful and important in their lives,” Cude said. “So our motto is prevent, treat and survive. We want to provide information for all of those aspects whether you haven’t gotten cancer, you’re in the middle of it or you’re coming out the other side and how are you going to survive and live your life after that.”
