At their Tuesday meeting, the City Council is expected to approve a contract for an Environmental Impact Report, or EIR, for the construction project in the amount of $292,319.

An EIR, mandated by the state, measures the impact a construction project has on the surrounding area’s flora and fauna, as well as other environmental factors.

The project site is within the existing nine-hole golf course at the Sand Canyon Country Club and is surrounded by existing single-family residences to the north and west.

The upgrades underway at the Sand Canyon Country Club would create a new destination in the Santa Clarita Valley, make its courses more fun and, overall, improve the “wow factor,” said owner Steve Kim.

The approximately 75.5-acre project site is located on the northeast corner of Sand Canyon Road and Robinson Ranch Road in the community of Canyon Country.

Although the site is in an area of open space, the proposed resort would require the removal of oak trees.

An oak tree report is being written, according to city officials.

The proposed resort consists of the following:

  •       Hotel (four three-story buildings at approximately 151,000 square feet)
  •       Villas associated with the hotel (27 buildings with a total of 155,950 square feet).
  •       Restaurants (three restaurants with total of 12,000 square feet)
  •       Spa/gym/salon (24,400 square feet)
  •       Conference/ballroom space (17,025 square feet)
  •       Grand ballroom, junior ballroom, eight meeting rooms
  •       Outdoor recreation including: two pools, two tennis courts and four pickleball courts
  •       Green Oaks Park (seven acres)
  •       On-site trails
  •       One nine-hole golf course.
  •       Parking (508 parking spaces)

“My goal is to make this one of the most beautiful golf courses around,” Kim said. “Tennis, pickleball, and restaurants… I really want to do this for the community — when the players come in and say, ‘Wow’ — that makes me happy.”

  1. Why is the taxpayer paying for the EIR?
