“Airmen” is a web series created by and casted with veterans. It follows a group of Air Force troops navigating life and career during peacetime operations.

“Airmen is a dramedy about a group of millennials navigating life and career during peacetime operations,” said writer and director Xanthe Pajarillo. “I wanted to show modern age military because I feel a lot of common military movies focus on the older generation so I wanted it to be about the people of our generations for it to be relatable.”

The campaign starts July 16 to raise funds to shoot nine episodes for the first season of the web series.

Supporters who contribute to the campaign within the first three day will be mailed “a special Airmen treat,” according to the web series’ Facebook page.

Pajarillo started writing the screenplay to “Airmen” after she was motivated to film a web series when a friend told her to write about what she knew.

The writer pulled from her experiences and from others around her while serving in the Air Force, providing subject matter for her stories.

“I didn’t want to cover war or PTSD because I feel that that’s really inundated in the Hollywood industry,” Pajarillo said. “I wanted it to be about the people, because most of all, I want to humanize the military. It doesn’t matter that we wear a uniform, at the heart of it we’re all human.”

“Airmen” depicts a diverse group of service members who develop friendships that turn into family ties while serving in the U.S. military.

“Oftentimes when stories are told about the military, it’s very dark,” said Marine Corp. veteran and actress Chloe Mondesir. “That’s not all we’re about.”

The group of friends support each other as they cope with daily conflicts involving love interests, relationships and peers.

“I hope this series can be something that everyone can be proud of, whether you’re a veteran or a family member or a civilian who’s just interested in this topic, there’s really something for everyone,” Pajarillo said.
