The event is scheduled for April 12 in the Century Room at City Hall between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Every three minutes, an individual is diagnosed with a type of blood cancer; every two seconds, an individual somewhere is in need of at least one unit of blood, according to statistics by the American Red Cross.

One blood donation could save up to three lives, officials said. One bone marrow donation could be instrumental in helping cure someone with a blood disease.

For these reasons, City of Santa Clarita officials have decided to coordinate with the American Red Cross and City of Hope in order to give members of the community a chance to donate or register and potentially help save lives, according to officials.

Those who would like to donate blood can sign up for the community blood drive by clicking here and using the sponsor code cityofsantaclarita.

All participants must have a valid ID. Those wishing to register for the “Be The Match Registry,” a catalogue of potential bone marrow donors, must be between age 18 and 44 and in good health.

No bloodwork is involved, only a saliva swab from the donor’s mouth. Those interested can register here.
