Dr. Lila Zarrinnam of A New Smile Dental in Canyon Country recommends most people come in every six months for an exam and teeth cleaning in order to help ensure not only the health of their teeth, but of their entire body.Santa Clarita Dentists Discuss Importance Of Dental Care

“A lot of times we are able to pick up on the beginnings of a lot of things that are happening in the rest of your body,” said Zarrinnam, who has 15 years of experience as a dentist. “It’s a gateway that we can see and diagnose stuff, so before anything becomes serious we can direct you in the right direction to take care of it.”

While some people may feel like they only need to see a dentist when they feel a cavity forming, Zarrinnam said dentists are able to check for cavities and other dental problems before it progresses to the point that it causes the person pain or discomfort.

“What we look for as dentists is different than what you feel in your mouth,” she said. “The beginnings of a cavity are very small. You don’t feel anything, you don’t see any dark spots, you don’t have any sensitivity. That’s when we want to take care of it– before it becomes a problem, before it involves a crown, a root canal… Before it becomes anything major.”

Not only is it easier on the person to treat these issues in their early stages, it’s also more cost effective, Zarrinnam added.

For those who are nervous about regular cleanings or the treatment of dental problems, A New Smile Dental staff offer “sleep dentistry,” and anyone who avoids regular dentist visits because they don’t have insurance can take advantage of their in-house financing program, “The Smiles Club.”

“We’re trying to make everyone aware of the importance of having good oral health,” said Dr. Ana Elena Arreguin Briones, A New Smile Dental’s PR manager. “An infection is going to be impacting the rest of our body as well so we want to make people aware of the importance.”
