“Around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, deputies were conducting patrol checks around businesses on The Old Road when they pulled behind one of the closed businesses and noticed a full-sized pickup truck parked in a secluded area of the parking lot. It was the only vehicle there,” said Shirley Miller, spokeswoman with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Law enforcement made contact with the suspect, to investigate why he was behind a closed business in the early hours of the morning, in efforts to protect closed businesses from nighttime burglaries, Miller said.

“Deputies learned that the driver was from the state of Idaho and upon closer inspection, they saw that he had burglary tools,” Miller said.  “Using law enforcement resources, deputies discovered this Idaho man had three warrants in the system; one for grand auto theft issued from a California courthouse, and two warrants out of Utah.”

In addition to the warrants and burglary tools, the suspect was also found to be in possession of approximately 70 items that included identity theft manufacturing devices, stolen identifications, social security cards and credit cards, according to officials.

“We lock up the criminals so our SCV residents can sleep safe and sound,” Miller said.

Craig Curtis, 38, was transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on six felony charges related to fraud and theft charges.

Curtis remains in custody without bail because of his fugitive status.

  1. Will Utah pick up the housing charges or does Craig fit into the CA homeless profile?

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
