Santa Clarita director, producer and actor Andrew Bowen is set to debut his latest project at the Tribeca Film Festival next month.

The film will show from April 19-29 at the festival.
“We made this short film that’s more or less about two kind of renegade insubordinate futuristic combat medics who attempt to rescue a pair of combat soldiers who have been left behind, a rescue that’s less than well thought out.” Bowen said. “That takes some twists and turns at times and it’s quite comical.”
The film, “The 716th,” is a sci-fi short that includes spacecrafts, futuristic weapons and VFX; it took roughly a year and a half to put it together, according to Bowen.
“I started writing it in 2016 and 2017 was pretty much shooting it and doing all the VFX so now April will be when people will finally get to see it,” he said.
Despite the massive need for special effects, the production cost for the film remained relatively low due to help from others in the industry.
“It was a lot of favors,” said Bowen.. “I finally got this idea and then kind of reached out… when they saw it they dug it and they offered to help, so we just sort of piled together and made it happen.”
Bowen discovered his passion for filmmaking during his early acting career, when he directed and starred in his own Spiderman short film, which he intended to use as an audition tape for the planned James Cameron Spiderman movie. While putting together the short, he depleted his entire bank account, but discovered his love of filmmaking.
