Santa Clarita city officials hosted a ribbon cutting event Friday, for the new addition of a 16-foot wide trail undercrossing to the San Francisquito Creek Trail.

City officials, community members and organizations attended the event for the opening of the trail addition on the west side of the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge.
“This is a phenomenal advantage for our trail users and cyclists in Santa Clarita,” said Mayor Laurene Weste.
This enhancement provides a safe alternative for cyclists and pedestrians to cross Newhall Ranch Road, and has opened just in time for the Santa Clarita Marathon in November, according to city officials.

“This is also an exciting connection for us too, not only because it’s trail, but also because it creates a safe way to get to school for children who are accessing Valencia High School, Legacy and Opportunities for Learning, which are all on the west side,” said Nina Moskol, chairperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Bicycle Coalition.
This project is part of the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening over San Francisquito Creek, a project that is updating the bridge by adding two more travel lanes, a raised median, barrier protected sidewalks and a bike trail, according to officials.
The project is part of the Building and Creating Community theme of the City’s Santa Clarita 2020 Strategic Plan, which you can learn about here.
