Santa Clarita has been ranked as the 23rd fastest growing city in the United States in the list that included a total of 515 cities chosen by the 2018 WalletHub study.

WalletHub compared the varying population for hundreds of cities by using 15 key data points, such as: working-age population growth, job growth, poverty rate decrease, median house price growth and building permit activity growth.

Although living in growing cities and having to deal with crowded roads and grocery stores can be a burden to longtime local residents, officials say that there is a positive side to seeing one’s hometown expanding.

“Growing cities generally means the economy and employment rate is booming, and that can do wonders to woo a younger crowd of new residents who may very well breathe fresh life and energy into the nightlife and dining scene,” according to a statement released by WalletHub.

Within the last year, Santa Clarita has seen a number of infrastructure projects come about, from road improvements, to the installation of new pedestrian bridges, to construction of the new Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and Santa Clarita Senior Center.

However, opposition to new housing development projects has become a hot button issue for local leaders and residents alike.

A number of housing projects have either been completed or approved in recent years, with the largest development being the Newhall Ranch Project.

That housing project is expected to include 21,500 units of mixed housing and commercial units along a six-mile stretch of Highway 126 west of the I-5 in Valencia.

According to the most recent estimates, Santa Clarita’s population is projected to reach 450,000 people within 15 years — an increase of 150,000 from today.

  1. How is this good in anyway, with our over crowed streets, highways and water shortage?

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
