On Jan. 16, 2015 Meghan Watts took the day off to take flowers to her mother’s workplace for her birthday when the accident took place, according to court testimony.

While driving on the Ventura (134) Freeway through Burbank at about 3 p.m., she saw a freeway traffic advisory sign warning of an accident ahead.

Watts said she slowed down and eventually stopped, as did the driver of another car behind her.

Oksana Grigorieva, Mel Gibson’s ex-girlfriend, was driving behind the car that was trailing Watts’ Volkswagen Passat.

Grigorieva failed to stop and hit the car ahead of her, pushing it forward into Watts’ vehicle, according to Watts.

Watts said she had her seatbelt on and was looking through the rear-view mirror when she realized the impact was unavoidable.

“I put my foot on the brake and gripped my steering wheel,” said Watts.

As the three drivers pulled to the right shoulder to exchange information, she asked Grigorieva and her daughter, who was fathered by the actor, if they were hurt.

“She said that they were doing okay,” said Watts.

Watts then drove to her boyfriend’s home and spent the weekend, cancelling their dinner plans because of the incident.

“I was too worked up to go,” said Watts.

The following Monday, she had pain in her neck, lower back and right knee, she told the courtroom. Her pain became worse, so she began seeing a chiropractor three days a week, where her treatment included electrical stimulation.

Grigorieva’s attorney, Rajeev Patel, said during the trial that Watts initially complained of only neck pain, but later expanded her injury claim after seeing the chiropractor and an attorney.

Grigorieva is a Russian pianist and singer who had a son with British actor Timothy Dalton in 1997.

She gave birth to her daughter Lucia in October 2009.

She and Gibson ended their relationship a year later and Grigorieva filed a restraining order

against the actor to keep him away from her and their child when the pair broke up. Gibson also obtained a restraining order against Grigorieva on June 25, 2010.

In August 2011, Gibson settled with Grigorieva and she was awarded $750,000, joint legal custody and a house in Sherman Oaks to live with their daughter until the girl turns 18.

KHTS reached out to attorneys for Grigorieva and Watts. Neither responded before this story was published. The story will be updated if either attorney responds.
