Updating their social media skills, Santa Clarita seniors attended Thursday’s “Facebook for Seniors” seminar to get hands-on training on how to get the most out of the social network. The lesson plan was part of the Santa Clarita Library’s Digital Literacy Program.

“Facebook is always changing their methods,” said Julie Oshiro, Santa Clarita Public Library digital services librarian, during the lesson. “Facebook is kind of funny like that, they always change it up.”

As more and more people continue to use Facebook as a way to stay in contact with others, it has become more useful to have and maintain an active account on the website, officials said.

The free event took place at the Jo Anne Darcy Library in Canyon Country on Thursday afternoon and offered attendants computers to use and work from during the training.

During the lesson, residents were able to learn how to navigate the Facebook home page by updating their statuses and scrolling through their news feeds, as well as search for locations, businesses and family and friends.

The lesson even covered sending messages, stickers and photos on the the Facebook Messenger application on mobile devices, as well as from a computer.

This event is only one of the many upcoming Santa Clarita Public Library Digital Literacy Program lessons, which will present workshops for users of all levels.
